CI types
In the CMDB system, the “CI types” section (Configuration Items) refers to categories of items that are managed within an organization's IT infrastructure. Each CI type represents different components of that infrastructure, such as servers, mobile devices, software, network devices, as well as users and user groups. In this section, you can configure CIs, for example, adding attributes, as well as allowed relations.
New CI type
To add a new configuration item (CI) type, go to CMBD > CI types, and then click the “Add resource type” button.
After that, the “New resource type” window contains the items:
1 | Name - A field for entering the name of the new CI type. |
2 | Icon - An option to select an icon for the new CI type. The user can drag and drop the icon file or select it from the available options. |
3 | Description - Text field for entering a description of the new Ci type. |
4 | Parent type - A drop-down menu that allows the user to select a parent type if the new CI type is to be a subtype of another CI type. |
5 | Mask - Option for specifying a mask, such as auto number for all elements of this Ci type. |
6 | Validity - A field for entering a validity value that can be used to determine priority. |
7 | Resource/Element configuration - A checkbox that, when checked, indicates that the new resource type is a configuration element in the CMDB context. |
Fill in the desired fields and click the “Save” button.

The new CI type has been added to the list.

Configuring the CI type
To configure the CI type, go to CMBD > CI types, then click the “Details” button, next to the desired CI type.

Adding an attribute to a CI type
Attributes in a CI type define characteristic information and properties for each configuration element. When creating a new configuration item (CI), attributes allow you to describe and categorize the item in detail. To add an attribute to a CI type, click the “+” button.
More about CI - attributes: Go >

Then in the “Select attribute” window, select the desired attribute from the list and click the “Save” button.

Finally, click the “Save attributes” button.

Create CI type relation
CI type relations define links between different configuration elements in an IT infrastructure. For example, they can indicate which servers support specific applications, which devices are connected to the network, or which people are responsible for specific IT systems. To add a new relation, click the “+” button.

Next, the “New allowed CI relation” window contains the items:
1 | Relation type - This field selects the type of relation to characterize the relation between configuration elements. |
2 | Type of configuration element - Here you specify the type of CI that will participate in the relation. |
Fill in the fields and click the “Save” button.

The relationship has been added.

Editing/Deleting a CI type
To edit or delete a CI type, go to CMDB > CI types. Hover over the desired CI type. The edit/delete buttons will appear.
